She and Sabrina (the Laughing Cat) don't gee-haw too well, and right now, Gris is dealing with eye ointment twice a day thanks to a scratch on her cornea. They both love me...and so does Rummy (Donald Rumsfeld-the Man Cat) It's a veritible love fest at bedtime every night...and Lord, let's not forget Dayzee Loo, the Psycho Dog-who, these days, has decided the floor is roomier and doesn't kick so much.

I have been a computer nerd for a very long time. From writing code on an Apple Macintosh in high school to CAD/design for a polystyrene manufacturer before my nursing career, I've always been awed and amazed by what these bad boys could do. Ten years ago, I got my first home computer and discovered the web. HOLY MOTHERBOARDS, BATMAN!

I was in the throes of post-partum depression and a divorce looming on the horizon; in a matter of days, I had found a whole new world and made friends across the globe-several of which I have met IRL and/or still correspond with today. Over time, I have evolved from AOL chat to Yahoo, and now I couldn't tell you the last time I chatted online...with the exception of Facebook. There were days/weeks/months/years of coming home from work, getting online until the wee hours of the morning, sleeping a couple of hours, lather, rinse, repeat. And don't even think of pointing a self-righteous finger at me. It kept me alive. That's all that was giving me the drive to go to work, to get out of bed another day, to come home to my family-my life in the virtual world. Until you have experienced overwhelming, mind-numbing clinical depression, don't you dare judge me. I read in a blog the other day where a mom was freaking out because she found out her ex's wife was on an anti-depressant and Xanax (for ANXIETY), and called her "bipolar'. Get educated before you throw stones...I was on anti-depressants for almost 15 years before I could 'make it on my own.' I have "friends" (I use that term loosely these days) that have family members in this situation, or have themselves suffered nervous breakdowns. My doc was kind enough to recently put me back on Xanax for my temper(or lack thereof)..which in all honesty, I should have taken before I got out of bed this morning.

A few years ago, I discovered blogs. Totally awesome. A chance to peek into someone else's psyche and see what makes them click. A new sense of humor that will leave you literally rolling on the floor laughing your ass off. A situation that will keep you up at night until you reach out to touch that soul on the other end of the screen and try to give them a shoulder to lean on. And sometimes, someone would reach out to me. However, there is one that has been more like a family reunion than a mere blog. At first, there were a handful of us that would meet up every morning on there (if we could without getting fired!) and check in throughout the day. Later, we started checking in after work. Now, it's almost like The Waltons with our "Goodnight John Boy" mentality.

Over the years, folks have come and gone...a couple of times, some have come in looking for a fight, and boy have they found one. We are usually very protective of each other and our fearless leader. We've been through so much together. Usually when someone has decided to leave, it's been like a gentle weaning...they show up less and less, until we no longer see them. And that's cool...much better than announcing it. So please, do us a favor..instead of stirring the pot, just go. We don't need an obituary. Those who want to keep in touch with you will...and the rest of us won't feel like we have been bitch-slapped.

This post brought to you by Bronchitis, the fever-bringer-onner. I know I am making a mountain out of a molehill, but when I am sick, my emotions and my nerves are very raw. Oh, and BTW, I didn't appreciate getting called out for not getting 'permission' to make an announcement the other day. Beat me with a wet noodle.

Change of Plans

We have changed the wedding date to June 6. Just glad it's not 2006. Heh.

Today was rough. Work was boring as hell, NOTHING going on, and I was sick as a dog. I had to take Mom for an appt yesterday with her pulmonologist (she got a great checkup!), and I had a check up with my doc for a follow up on my BP meds, which he changed last time. As soon as he came in, I coughed up half a lung (which he wanted to look at...ew), and immediately listened to my lungs and asked how long I had been wheezing. Wheezing? I am WHEEZING? All the way from top to bottom, he says. I told him I had had the crud for three or four weeks.. He chewed me out, then put me on antibiotics and steroids-which I will have to take for a month. I will be a fatass nutcase in a week, much less four weeks. This will be interesting..but I am breathing better already. If I am not completely clear when I have a day left on the antibiotics, I am supposed to call him for a refill. He wants this mess GONE. I like that in my doctor :) He also was glad I was not a crying, sniveling, on-the-verge-of-a-nervous-breakdown mess like I was the last time I saw him. Every time I have been to see him, I have either been on the brink of death (NOT KIDDING) or having a squalling fit. It was nice to be sane this time..hah.

Cody is officially withdrawn from school.
I guess I should start from the beginning:
Our school has a bullshit rule about cell phones. The first time a student is caught with a cell phone at school, it is taken away from the student FOR A FULL CALENDAR YEAR. The second time the same student is caught with a cell phone at school, it is taken away for a full calendar year and the student is sent to the alternative school. Cody's phone fell out of his pocket the last ten minutes of school and hit the floor and the teacher saw it. Busted. He had lost his first one the first week of school. Well, he got sent last week to the alternative school. It scared the mess out of me, but he said it wasn't bad-the environment was actually more conducive for learning due to his A.D.D. and the fact that each student has their own cubicle where all they can see is the teacher. No distractions. However, our school runs on a block schedule-full year courses are taught in a single semester, and each class lasts two class periods. Instead of 7 periods per day, they have 4, and 4th period is split in half-4A and 4B. Anyway, we knew with this schedule, even if he only stayed the 3 week minimum at the alternative school (which has the other schedule), it would put him a full semester behind. He was already short on credits, and we realized he probably would not have graduated until he was 20. The school encouraged us to consider him getting his GED so he would be able to start college this fall instead of being so far behind. He took the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education-a GED prep test that shows what the student needs to focus on before taking the GED) last Friday, and out of a possible 12 points, he scored an 11.66! The school recommended that he test ASAP, and the next test date available is next Saturday, 2/21. However, for him to test, he is required to attend a minimum of 12 hours of test prep-free of charge-at the local community college prior to testing. To attend, we had to officially withdraw him from school. So...today, I did it. One of the hardest decisions I have ever made in my life. Monday, he will start taking the prep class from 8-12 (which he loves, because he hoped 'to meet hot babes.' ) Yeah...that's the spirit, Napolean. He has to take test orientation Wednesday at 1:00, and there is something that has to be notarized, so Tim will be going to the college to attend this with him to make sure his distracted self doesn't mess this up-I have a prior work commitment that I cannot change. If he does as well on the GED test as he did on the TABE, he will get a full-tuition scholarship to our local Community College.

He hopes he can go to work immediately, but with the casino 15 minutes from here laying off 570 people last month, finding a job will be a little harder than he thinks. He also plans to start at the Vo-Tech at the college this fall, and hopes to be able to get in the band. We will be talking to the band director-who is the same band director I had at EC 20 years ago. He knows me and the Ex well, and knows our boys are excellent band students with talent. If he can get in, that's another scholarship!

I have felt so bad about all of this all week. Am I a failure as a parent because my kid didn't graduate and get a diploma? Then I realize my sister 'home-schooled' (a loose term) her last 3 kids, and all took their GED's and have great jobs now-my niece is a manager at Books a Million, and she's only 24. Not too shabby :) Found out a local doctor was a hellion in high school, so he dropped out, took his GED, then went to med school. That made me feel better , too.

Seriously...do you ever have times in your life when you feel like everything you touch turns to dook?

This wedding date, 4/11...is the FOURTH date we have set. The first date we set, my mother decided to almost die due to not taking her thyroid meds and seriously was almost comatose for several days before they figured out the problem, and was in the hospital for a week while they brought her back from the brink. Not the easiest thing to do, but she made it. The second date we set, HIS mother decided to throw a shower-of the pulmonary embolism variety. Hospitalization with a placement of a basket in her vena cava to catch any wayward clots before they hit her heart or brain and getting her regulated on anti-coagulants kinda put a kink in THOSE plans. She also pulled through, but still gets clots in spite of the Coumadin. Thank God for that little basket. The third date was set for Labor Day Weekend of 2005. Remember anything exciting happening around that time? A bitch called KATRINA, perhaps? Yeah, ummmm....kinda hard to have a beach wedding when the beach is non-existent, along with everything else for miles in every direction. Obviously, the third time was NOT the charm.

We set this date because it's Easter weekend and the kids will be out of school Good Friday and the following Monday. We have traditionally spent Easter on the coast with Tim's parents, so it just seemed perfect. Talked to our pastor, and he said he would be tickled to come to the coast for the wedding-and we checked into having the ceremony and reception on a Biloxi Schooner, and wow, there is one available that evening for a 4 hour or 2.5 hour sunset cruise-the wedding we have talked about since the first time we met (Seriously) We even found the perfect ring, and it FIT, which never happens since I have fat fingers. We took it as a sign that it was THE one.

Since setting the date, the dishwasher has gone out, Cody has been sent to the Alternative School (for bringing a cell phone to school-twice), and I did my taxes-which is normally cause for celebration and would normally facilitate all the wedding plans we had made. However, the boys turned 17 last year, and are no longer qualified for the child tax credit. I OWE THE IRS. A. LOT. OF. MONEY. Needless to say, all of our plans, even down to the hors d'ouvres for the cruise, have been shot to hell.

I am REALLY bummed right now. I know Tim wants to make me an honest woman, but I think we should just cancel this crap and sneak over to Alabama one day without telling ANYONE, so Karma will just leave me the hell alone.

I have NOT fallen from the face of the planet. Just been real busy. My phone that posted once to this blog decided to crap on that idea, so I haven't been able to send a new post. And that sucks too, because I have had some funny stuff that happens on the fly, but by the time I get home and have a chance to blog it, I'm too tired or have forgotten.
Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving.
To those of you unawares, I HATE the holidays, so do not be surprised if I keep it quiet for the next month. If I post, it will probably be depressing stuff, so it's probably just better if I go into hiding.

Well...state marching finals are over. After months of blood, sweat, and tears, it came down to less than two points.
We were watching out for Philly (as usual), who took 5th. Half-expected our arch-nemesis to snatch it from our grip...again...but alas, Scott Central took 4th place. We knew the only band to outscore us state-wide in Regionals was Wesson (by seven-tenths of a point), so we anticipated their victory. NOPE...they came in 3rd. Once the applause died down, you could have heard a pin drop. I mean, HOLY CRAP, we were still out there! Our band placed 2nd in the music category, and 3rd in General Effect, and we knew those kids had put all they had into that 7:30 performance.
With a score of 82.33, UNION WON 2ND PLACE!!! After the applause died down (and we realized the trophy was almost as tall as our drum major), with a score of 84.18, Eupora took 1st place.
We are so proud of our kids!!!!

THE PRIDE OF UNION MARCHING BAND WINS FIRST PLACE AT MHSAA REGION 3 MARCHING BAND FESTIVAL
By Clucky, Band Booster Secretary and Proud Band Mom!
Under a canopy of blue skies and sunshine, The Pride of Union Marching Band again found what had been lost for the last four years: All-Superior ratings at the MHSAA Region 3 Marching Band Festival. “The kids did a great job today, but I don’t want to jinx it,” said Band Director Adam Devenney immediately following the band’s performance on Saturday, October 4 at Meridian High School’s Ray Stadium.
Devenney had good reason to be superstitious: for the last three years, both Scott Central and Philadelphia had outscored Union in competition. Immediately preceding the Jacket Band’s performance was the Scott Central Rebel Band. They put on a good show, no one can argue that point, but it wasn’t good enough to beat Union.
Sitting in the stands after their performance Saturday, the Pride of Union had to endure Philly’s marching show. The tension was palpable-Percussion Captain Josh Sessums (grandson of Union mayor, Max Sessums) is undeniably one of the best in the area. Percussion Instructor Cassady Byers is full-time on the Philadelphia staff, but helps the Union percussion during camps or when changes are needed in cadences and music. Percussion has been the lone “2” rating Union has received for the last three years. Saturday, that came to a dramatic end.
As the scores were called out after performance by the Wall O’Sound Marching Band of ECCC, there were many “ooh’s” and “aah’s” heard throughout the stadium. Enterprise received Superior ratings in Drum Major, Color Guard, and Percussion, but received a “2-1-1” score in the Band category. Although they received an Overall “1”, it still gave hope to the Union group. Forest received all “1’s” in the first three categories as well-but received “2-3-3” in Band, with an Overall “2” rating. Scott Central scores were next-and silenced the Union Band; Scott Central received All-Superior ratings in all categories with an Overall “1.”
Would this be the year? Could Union overcome the curse? You could have heard a pin drop in the stands as scores were announced:
“Pride of Union Marching Band: Drum Major: ONE. Color Guard: ONE. Percussion: ONE. The band lost all composure at this point and was screaming and passing around high-fives like a politician with handshakes on Election Day. Silenced by Mr. Devenney, the band settled down enough to hear the last scores. “Band: ONE. ONE.ONE. OVERALL: ONE.” There were screams and tears-and Scott Central band sat next to them, stunned.
Philadelphia’s scores were the last scores for Class 2A. Most of the Union band students have friends in the Philadelphia band-it was very tense in the stands while those last scores were announced. Drum Major, Percussion, and Band received Superior “1” ratings; but the lone “2” rating for Color Guard made it a run between Union and Scott Central.
When the final scores were read, the Union brand broke out with their infamous “U-H-S” chant. When Katie Devenney was asked how she felt, she said, “My face hurts from smiling so much!” The band awaited the arrival of Adam Devenney to find out the ranking of bands.
Who would be number one? Is this what Union has been waiting for?
The smile on Mr. Devenney’s face was a dead giveaway. With a score of 88, Union had the highest score! “By one point, but that’s all it takes!” said Mr. Devenney.
Last year’s 2A State Finals at Hinds are a perfect example-the top six bands were all within a two point range. A full point felt like a runaway after that night.
Following a trip to Bonita Lakes Mall for lunch, The Pride of Union Marching Band returned to Union-and were met with a police escort! Two police cars with lights and sirens led the band down Jackson Road, turned left on Bank Street, and left again on Main Street. Following the parade route, the buses made their way back to the band hall.
As band members filed off the buses, you could see the shock had worn off and happiness remained.
The Pride of Union Marching Band will be performing at home this Friday night in Union vs. Newton. The following Friday night is an away game at Scott Central, then the band returns home to host the “Chunky River Band Classic” on Saturday, October 18, at Union High School. With 20 bands slated to perform, this will be a day full of music and fun for the whole family.

We are on our way to Pass Christian, MS to pick up Tim's parents and bring them home with us. They are living in a Katrina cottage...not the place to be when a Category 4 or 5 storm is knocking on New Orleans' door, only 50 miles away. We are on Interstate 59 between Meridian and Laurel. There are 5 other vehicles traveling south with us. The northbound lanes are steady and moving well right now. We brought 15 gallons of gas with us just in case. Three days after Katrina struck, we drove to Gulfport to find Tim's daughter. Thank God, she and the rest of the family were safe. We drove back home, but ran out of gas in Laurel...and there was no gas to be found. A very nice man from Mississippi Power overheard us asking everyone where we could get gas or stay the night. He asked us to follow him outside. He promptly grabbed a full gas can from the back of his truck and put the gas in our car. An angel among us, for sure. We are emotional wrecks. Tim worked down on the coast, rebuilding homes after the storm. He's a coast native, and every weekend he came home, he was just shellshocked. Even now, when we come to visit, we only drive along Hwy 90 one time...and we still cry.

I haven't read her name in months-really almost a year, since Sessums has recovered. What I saw just took the wind out of me. May 12 &May 14th's entries just left me stunned. I will read more later...I'm going to bed to snuggle up with my baby girl.

I needed a printer/scanner. I grabbed a Lexmark x2500 and brought it home. Plugged it in-no go. Installed the software-no go. "Communication Error" my ass. When I unplug/plug in the cable, I get the tones...it's communicating alright..with it's figurative middle finger. I carried it back to the store, and brought home this little HP Deskjet F4240. Rather sweet little printer thus far. I think it shall suffice. As it dang well better, since both boys have projects due the end of the week. 'Twill be nice, as we have been printer-less for months.

I know she's gonna kick my ass for posting this pic, but I've taken one of those for less :)

This is my BFF, Becca, and her daughter Christina, who was 6 months pregnant when I took this pic. Today, Christina gave birth to a bouncing baby girl :) I love all of you, and cannot wait to see that baby! (Bec hates this pic, but I don't care..okay, well yeah I DO, but it's the only one I have!)

I have several 'extra younguns' that have been a big part of our lives for years...best friends of my sons that have had each others' back since 5th grade.

The kid with the trumpet is Zach, who is the younger brother of Stephen (in the 2nd pic, on the left, with Matt), who is like another son to me. Today, Zach and his sister were riding the 4-wheeler when they had an accident. I don't know details, but Lil Sis is okay; Zach (so I've heard) has ruptured a kidney. We aren't too sure of details, but please keep Zach in your prayers.
He's a sweet kid-and can play the hell out of that trumpet.

Today, I really just acted a fool on MR's blog, and totally misconstrued a comment thrown at me and blew it waaaaaaaaaaay out of proportion. I apologized, but I probably hurt someone's feelings. If it was your feelings, I sincerely apologize. Really.

Friday, I'm tooling my way south on beautiful country roads, made more surreal by the low-lying clouds that were rising and just above the trees, when my sis calls. We talked for a good 20 minutes, about Mom, about her daughter's moving 3 hours away, about how good it was to get to see each other for a while-even if under quite shitty circumstances. She mentioned she had tried to call Mom a couple of times before calling me, with no answer. I told her not to worry-Mom's a night owl (I get it honest) and has been known to sleep until 10 in the morning...If I can't reach her by 1030, I launch a phone attack if I am out of town (I go wake her in person if I can), because her suger tends to drop too low if she hasn't eaten by 10. My appointment was at 10 at my destination, so it slips my mind that Mom is still snoozing. Dude that I'm seeing has a shy bladder, so he's hitting the water cooler when my phone rings. It's Mom. It's also almost 11. Oh, she was UP at 10..apparently mine and sissy's calls woke her up, but when she got to the phone, the caller had hung up. She went in the kitchen to get her meds and start breakfast, but things got kinda fuzzy after that. (HUH?) She said she fell, and tried to get up 2 or 3 times before she could get up-like her legs were just giving out on her. She's also confused. I tried to call around to get someone to peek in on her-and my aunt is going to lunch in a few, and will go see about her. I tell Dude to put up or shut up-he hears THAT voice, and graciously pees on command. Atta Boy. In the meantime, I am freaking OUT. Mom calls me back, says she feels a little more 'normal' and to take my time. RIIIIIIIIGHT. I have to make 2 stops before getting home, and arrive to find her still a little addled with a pretty decent skin tear on her elbow. Blood is on the floor, the fridge, the wall...sheesh, was there a hog killin' this mornin'? She still was not real steady on her feet, and she couldn't remember what made her fall in the first place. Her blood pressure was up just a little, but she had dropped her 1/2 pill when she fell, and forgot to get another one-we fixed that right away. I had my laptop and a decent wireless connection, so her dining room table became my office for the rest of the afternoon. She improved as the day went on, so when my brother arrived I came home to take the kids school clothes shopping. As we walk in the door at 11 pm, the phone rings. "Guess what?" Mom asks. "What?" "I remember what happened. J (my brother) had mopped the kitchen last night and used Mop & Glo, making the floor really slick. I was wearing my slippers (which are slick), and as soon as I hit that tile, I fell straight back." "Where did you land?" "Well, that's how I remembered. There's a hole in the wall where I hit it with my HEAD."

She overdid it Saturday, and today I think she's running a little fever and is pale as a ghost. After seeing the oncologist and her primary doc and getting good reports, a day later, she falls and probably has a concussion, or brain bleed, or something terrible...or maybe it's just that one little spot in her incision that is icky that's making her feel so bad. I'm calling the doc this morning. And now I am terrified to leave her alone. MrsH, I am so thinking of you right now.

This was in April. Yeah. Mmmm-hmmmm. When we replaced the HEAD GASKET. Yeah, 6 months after we replaced the VALVE COVER GASKET. No, I have no idea why it is puking smoke through the air filter. And no, I can't explain that *bloop* sound that comes from the BACK of the car every time I hit the gas pedal. Fuel pump? Probably-since it is a LOT more expensive to fix than a filter. I mean, sheesh, this is only the FOURTH ENGINE...and she has 125K miles-yeah I know, but gee, who would expect a car to get over 30K miles per motor? That's just ridiculous~Oh. Everyone else's cars DO get how many miles? Oh. My. God.

Dumbest thing I did all week? Let's just start with TODAY, shall we?Agreed to ride in the vehicle being towed. If I wasn't still dealing with whiplash from the fair (really), I surely would have had a new case of it today. JERK....brakes...brakes....BUMPEROMGBRAKESBRAKESBRAKES...whew. JERK..OMGHEREWEGOAGAIN!!! Making sure I was never closer than 12" from the truck's bumper. I got home after THAT thrill-ride feeling like I had been beaten to death. I just took 2 Excedrin Migraine...now to lay down any make happy with the TENS unit...
Oh, and let me not forget..THE CAR CRANKED WHEN WE GOT HOME. Just enough to get it into it's little spot...then promptly died again. Lord, please forgive me for all the fugly words I said today. Please give me a reduced sentence since I was merely venting my frustration WITH the car, TO the car-I hurt no one's feelings during my rant. Except yours. Nevermind. I'm sorry.

Miss Thang is not well-represented, so indulge me in the second pic, which shows her in a 'better light,' yet shows her brother's agony. (And no, that was not plural, but possessive. I know how YOU are!) C's just looking good. First pic of the boys without braces in FIVE years!

I realize Miss Thang is mixing up dots and stripes, but she does her own thing with the clothes. As long as she's covered, she can get as funky as she wants!

Sadly, hopefully, there will only be one more like this..next year, when they start their senior year.

Mammogram Preparation

The importance of regular mammograms should never be forgotten! There are many women who are afraid of their first mammogram, but there is no need to worry. By taking a few minutes each day for a week preceding the exam and doing the following practice exercises, you will be totally prepared for the test. Best of all, these simple practice exercises can be done in the comfort of your own home.

Exercise 1:Open your refrigerator door and insert one breast between the door and the main box. Have one of your strongest friends slam the door shut as hard as possible and lean on the door for good measure. Hold that position for five seconds. Repeat the exercise for the other breast.

Exercise 2:Visit your garage at approximately 3 AM when the temperature of the cement floor is just perfect. Remove your clothes from the waist up and lie comfortably on the floor with one breast wedged under the rear tire of a car. Ask a friend to slowly back the car up until your breast is sufficiently flattened and chilled. Turn and repeat exercise for the other breast.

Exercise 3:Freeze two metal bookends overnight. Strip to the waist. Invite a stranger into the room. Have the stranger press the bookends against one of your breasts and smash the bookends together as hard as possible. Repeat exercise for the other breast.

You are now properly prepared for your mammogram.

While at the Fair watching the horse races, the announcer said "Hurry up jockeys! We have a storm coming!" Serious looking clouds rushed in from the west. Wind gusts slammed the doors of the food vendors. Barkers scrambled to clear passengers from the Ferris Wheel.

The sky turned green. Coke-bottle green-the green that makes most Mississippians run for the bathroom-to hide in the bath tub until the storm passes.

Then the bottom fell out; a monsoon by usual July standards-two inches in 45 minutes. We sat under the pavilion at Founder's Square watching, listening to and smelling the rain. Watching the new rivers run down the aisles while outside our cover, lights went out and fools tried to outrun the lightning.

The sky turned an eerie orange color, and the rain stopped.

9:00am Appt with Dr. Harris who finally decided that 40wks+5 days was LONG ENOUGH. NST looks good. Blood Pressure is through the roof, but I'm not having headaches. Gained 9 pounds in the last 4 days. 4+ pitting edema to mid-thigh. Scheduled C/Sec for 8:00 in the morning.

10:00 Got the message to Mom & Daddy, so they could call his doctor so he will FINALLY start chemo and radiation day after tomorrow for metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lungs. Would not start treatment until the boys were born and he could see me & boys before going to V.A. Hospital.

11:00 Lunch at Shoney's. GORGED MYSELF on chicken fried steak and sweet tea :) We called it "The Last Meal."

12:30 Home, called everyone to let them know, but of course, everyone is at THE FAIR. Dammit.

1:00-5:00 Slept like the dead.

5:00 Bathed in MY tub, shaved my legs (ok, ok..there is NO WAY IN H3LL I could have shaved my own legs. I had not seen my feet in 2 months (okay, OKAY..THREE MONTHS), so Baby Daddy shaved my legs for me :)

6:00-11:00pm Packed and repacked and packed again. We are taking half the house with us to the hospital! Fed kitties, hit the road to Meridian.

12:00 Midnight Walked into the hospital, kicked off the size 11 wides that I could only get my toes into anyway, and walked my ginormous @$$ through the hospital BAREFOOT AND DEFINITELY PREGNANT!

*I won't go into details, but let me say I was violated in places this chicken didn't know she HAD. I tried to be nice. I wasn't even a nurse back then. I thought 4+ protein in my tee-tee was a GOOD thing! My B/P is 210/180? Is that high? (DOH!)*

Big News

Bad News: Not only did Mom have Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, 1.5cm dia, margins clean,etc., but also had 2 smaller DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In Situ) tumors.
Good news: ALL GONE! A blessing that she insisted on a mastectomy instead of a lumpectomy.

Both drains and all THIRTY-THREE staples removed today.

B/P med changed AGAIN due to her flippin' high potassium and suck-a$$ kidneys, Lab in 2 days. (Like that will be enough time to make a difference....)

Awaiting appointment with oncologist. Cancer was Estrogen-Receptor NEGATIVE! So no Tamoxifen therapy. Still refusing any chemo or radiation, so if they insist, she will promptly tell the doc where to shove it. For example (from today even):

Doc: "When will you consider quitting smoking?"
Mom: "When you look in my casket and there's not one hanging out of my mouth, you will know I have quit."

OUCH. He looked bitch-slapped.

The next 6 months are chock-full (what DOES that mean, anyway?) of various and assundried medical appointments. *siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*

Sis is planning to stay a little longer to help out. Thank God.

Hunny, We are HOME!

So Far...

We've been here since 7 yesterday morning. Got checked in to find her sugar at 41 and her BP in the orbit range. NPO for surgery meant all treatment was via IV. Got her stable, then waited til 1230 for her to go to surgery. She was in recovery by 115, and in her room by 2.
Everything went pretty smooth except for her blood glucose. Actually, they were fine, but the doc ordered them EVERY HOUR. EVERY FLIPPIN HOUR. It has been in the 180 range most of the last 12 hours. No insulin last night. Or BP med, thyroid med or neuropathy meds. "The doc didn't resume her home meds." WELL, ARE YOUR DAMN FINGERS BROKEN AND YOU CAN'T CALL HIM????? Oh yeah, I am just one big ray of sunshine right now. The pain meds were given last night waaaaaay too late to get on top of the pain, so she had to get IV morphine. That was at 8 last night. Every hour, the nurse or CNA has been in here to check her sugar. Have they helped her to the bathroom? NO. Can she go alone? (All together now...) NO. Has she been offered oral pain meds all night? HELL TO THE NO. I finally had enough at 4 this morning and got a message to the nurse that she needed meds. She shows up 15 minutes later with PERCOCET. I told her to get her a shot, that percs would be like throwing a rock at the moon. She wanted to argue with me. I reached for the phone, and before you could say "boo", the nurse returned with the morphine. I also refused her next accucheck on her behalf so she could get a little sleep. Guess what? The doc just walked out of here. Resuming home meds, blood sugars before meals and at bedtime. (And woke her up to do it-but she's already snoring again.) Thank you, Lord. She made it.

I guess 'delicate' really isn't the word, and well, maybe 'careless' isn't the right word either... Last night, we rode to the reservation to partake of a few libations, maybe play a hand of cards, and pull a couple of one-armed bandits.

We won. Or rather, let me say, HE won. Twice. Once at each place. The first time for a smooth "K", at which point we cashed out and crossed the road (like a chicken..heh) to go eat at the buffet. At one in the morning. Dude, it was like a big Waffle House (or Denny's, as some of my friends prefer), so we got in a fair amount of people-watching along with my face-stuffing that made me so full, I actually HURT.

On our way out, we had to walk within 10 feet of the same slot that T hit earlier across the street. Shucks, he drops in 20, and wins flippin' 700 bucks!

This wouldn't be such a big deal, but we NEVA, EVA, EVA win there. NEVER. So, yeah, this is a really big deal. On the say home we discussed sectionals vs couch/love seat combos, etc. Heh.

ET is still awesome-even 30 years later. Wow.
Saw 2 or 3 turkey hens with their little ones today as I was leaving work. If they keep eating our feed, they will be "ButterBall's" in a few weeks. Heh.
Visited with Mom this evening. She's getting weaker, more fatigued. I am so ready for this to be behind the both of us.
Picking up Big Sis Saturday evening in Vicksburg. What could be a decent visit has already been spoiled. After swapping weekends with the ex for HIS convenience a month ago, he has decided to take off on a fishing trip this weekend without letting me know. How I am supposed to get everything ready before Mom's surgery is the question of the day.
House is a total wreck. Someone offered to help-I told them to bring a gas can and a box of matches.
Cat & kitties doing good. Chicklette is so tickled!
Craziest week of work in a long time. Gone yesterday from 830am til 1230 (just after midnight last night) You would think it's a full moon.

Enough whining. My sunflowers are blooming beautifully, and the hummingbirds finally showed up. Life is good.

Here We Go Again

It's hard to tell, but there are THREE new members of our family!

At 1:30 THIS MORNING, Fruit Loop decided to jump in my face and YOWL AT THE TOP OF HER LUNGS at me, which scared me to death-and definitely woke me from a dead sleep. After yelling for T to come turn the light on and see what was wrong, She YOWLED again. Lights on-to see her licking her tush-prompted me to holla at T again to bring a clothes basket and towels! Just as we got her in the basket, we heard a tiny little "mew" from her backside. (WTF???) A peek under the tail showed us that only halfway out, her first-born was a hell raiser! He (or she) plopped right out without any problems. FL looked at me like "EWW!", so we held her in the basket and took her into the lair of the Princess, which was devoid of royalty and other critters. She started looking at me like, "Now what?" I rubbed her noggin, and talked softly to her (holding her paw, as it were) while she started checking out her youngun. She seemed fine, so I tried to go back to sleep. Emphasis on TRIED. Hummmmmph. 30 minutes later, I just had to go back in and check on her. She was cleaning her baby, and I felt her contract. One more good one, and the second one popped out. WOW! That was SO awesome! It was the one you see in the above pic lying on FL.(The color is the palest orange-if it's a boy, I want to name him James, as in The Giant Peach!) She started right away cleaning him/her up, and I was so tired, I could not stand up. (I know-what am I bitching about-she's the one having babies!) I went back to bed (for the rest of the night this time) and snoozed til about 730. As soon as my feet hit the floor, I took off to check on my new mommy. She was napping, with all THREE of her babies! The third was born after I went to sleep, and is a really deep orange. (Yeah, we know who THAT daddy is....)

Thursday night, the brood and I ventured to Pearl to see the Mississippi Braves play at Trustmark Park. The real reason for the trip was to visit with my adopted family, the Marshall Ramsey Blogaholics Anonymous :) We had a great time. The kids behaved, and I don't think I stuck my foot in my mouth more than three or four times. Heh. For your viewing pleasure, I will be adding the link to the boys participation in "Dizzy Bat", which Thing 1 won by a hair.I had the opportunity to put faces with names-dhcoop (you ROCK!), chas3r, cardinallady and son, bloggerman and family-and to see some oldies HAHAHA but goodies-supermom and superkid, stacey-drew-ace, Old Bopper and Prom Queen, grammargirl, legaleagle-Big Eagle-Daddy D, msudeere and watercolor. My Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer this week.

My dog died.

I am almost scared for Morgan to be Baptized in the morning for fear of drowning. Thank God she can swim.

Sad way to start the day.My three year old poodle, Rusty, who was more like my best friend, died after being struck by a car this morning.We have already buried him.I have called the huge black and white cockapoo "Russ" at least once this morning already.We tried to find a home for Dayzee (the cockapoo) several times, but Russ's affection for her always changed our minds. Now she is ours to stay.I miss my baby.~:<

The diagnosis: Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.
Staging and Prognosis will be determined after surgery.
Meet with a plastic surgeon on July 1 to determine reconstruction options.
Surgery date will be determined at that time.

More emotions and feelings than I can really voice at this time. I will probably start a new blog for all of this. It's so totally different from all the shit I try to convey on this blog-and I really feel like I will be coexisting on two separate planes-one as ME, the other as a daughter and caregiver of My Mom, the cancer patient. I have talked about Dad's illness, but this is 180 degrees different. I'm educated and a nurse this time around. I wasn't blindsided, and I will now very much be involved in the entire process, not humongously pregnant with twins with pre-eclampsia nipping at my heels.

Sucker Punch, Part II aka "Why I Relay!"

Today, I took Mom for the followup on her mammogram. *sigh* Called me in after they repeated the scan to tell both of us she does have Breast Cancer. Dr. P is fantastic, awesome, compassionate, and just Da BOMB. She even held our hands and prayed before doing the needle biopsies. She took four samples-and Mom did great. Lidocaine is WONDER DRUG! We go back tomorrow to Dr. P's to get the site rechecked, then on to the surgeon, Dr. G. The tumor is about the size and shape of a marble, on the right breat at 9:00 position.

I guess the logical idea is to work from the end to the beginning. I can't do it all at once-how do you fit 20 years into 20 minutes of writing? Impossible. So I will start at the end, and over time, give you an idea of why I miss him so very very much. Hopefully I can get my scanner to behave, and I will add a pic of him in here for visual reference. I don't think he will mind...like I said, he loved a story. Just let him get the boat in the middle of the lily pads with a good open faced reel with some 20# test and a spinner bait...and a cold brew, and he may just sit back & listen. I hope Papaw is with him...our visual is them fishing and looking at us and laughing their butts off!
